TOLEDO - For this episode of Definitely … a King, I stopped by the West Toledo Library, where members of Toledo Resists and Toledo Troublemakers were busy making signs for the Democracy Drive rally on Monday, Sept. 22, and writing postcards for the gubernatorial race in New Jersey in November.
It was inspiring to see activism in action, and their chatter was great background noise for my makeshift podcast booth set up on a podium.
On this episode, I spoke to Kristen Angelo, Mary Weiher, Derek Wilmott and Cecilia Johnson. They spoke about the upcoming Democracy Drive; the power of writing postcards to garner votes; and how one non-voter can make a difference (in a negative way) because those non votes add up to millions.
“When I was working on the campaign for Hillary, I was so frustrated because I was on the phone. I was going door to door. So many women said to me, ‘Oh, it doesn't matter if I vote; she's got it in the bag.’
I tried to tell them it does matter because it's not just you. It's you and 10 other people with the same attitude … your vote does matter. People don’t understand this.” - Mary Weiher
